on the fly entstand als Auftragsarbeit im Rahmen von »coop 3/Tanznacht Berlin 2004«,
bei der Kooperationen zwischen Choreographen aus Berlin und Osteuropa zur Aufführung
kamen. WILHELM GROENER und Katrin Essenson nutzten die Transit-stationen zwischen
den Kollaborationsorten Berlin und Tallinn zur Erarbeitung von performativen Strukturen.
Der Ausdruck »on the fly« beschreibt Aktivitäten, die nicht als ein Resultat von etwas
statisch Vordefiniertem erscheinen, sondern sich eher dynamisch entwickeln oder kann
auch einfach »beweglich sein« oder »in einem fließenden Zustand« meinen.

WILHELM GROENER and Katrin Essenson used all the transit-stations between the
collaborating cities Berlin and Tallinn to work on performance structures. The term
»on the fly« describes activities that develop or occur dynamically rather than as the
result of something that is statically predefined. It can also simply connote a state of
being in a mobile or fluid situation.
